Councillor Candidate For RRFN 2018 Election

My name is William West.

My life has encompassed living and working throughout Canada and the United States. I took a leave of absence in 2010 from working with high-pressure wood-fired boilers in Michigan to return to assist with the care of a family member.

Upon arriving I took the position of handyman. That led to my interactions with Elders during my days of work. It was from those interactions were I came to listen to the oral history of families and the community that was passed onto me. What began as a work relationship with a client turned into dinners with a friend in some instances. I began to grow close to some of them and I considered them trusted friends. When talk of elections eventually started, we spoke of bringing their voices and concerns to the community. Although a number of those trusted friends are now in the spirit world, I still carry those ideas and thoughts we would discuss over dinners into the future.
